KSP is FASCINATING and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. I haven’t even made it out of planet Kerbal’s orbit yet. The tutorials teach you the basics of spacecraft engineering, the physics of escaping the atmosphere, and orbital mechanics. You earn science points by making crew reports, attaching sensors to your crafts and taking readings, and completing missions and reentry successfully. The cartoony art style and lovable Kerbals bring joy and levity to what could otherwise be a tedious simulation game. There is something so pure about watching the awe and wonder on your brave astronaut’s face as they enter space, and the soundtrack swells into serene and moving ambient melodies.
I think this is a game for everyone who has an interest in physics or space flight. Unlike most games, I feel like I’ve learned something valuable after a play session. It would be a wonderful teaching tool for children, and seems to be complex enough to allow dozens if not hundreds of hours of play. The developers, Mexico City-based Monkey Squad, should be incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished.
